Sustainability
Library of sustainable materials dedicated to designers and architects.
At Wise Habit, we have opened the first sustainable materials library in Poland and the third in Europe. Its goal is to support designers and architects in creating planet-friendly products and architecture.
We recognized that designers and architects have a key role in minimizing the environmental impact of products and architecture. According to Karolina Ferenc, Head of Research, responsible for the library project: "We started from the premise that everything starts with the designer - a house, a chair, a phone case or a bottle. That's why designers are the driving force behind the change toward sustainable and planet-supporting production of goods."
How does architecture and construction affect the environment?
Greenhouse gas emissions: According to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), construction is responsible for about 39% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This includes both emissions related to the construction process (e.g., production of building materials, transportation) and the operation of buildings (energy consumption for heating, cooling, lighting).
Consumption of natural resources: Construction is one of the main consumers of natural resources, such as wood, water, energy and building materials. Excessive consumption of these resources can lead to resource depletion and environmental degradation.
Construction waste: The construction sector generates a significant amount of waste, which is often landfilled or disposed of inappropriately. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), construction accounts for about 40% of the global waste stream.
Loss of biodiversity and environmental degradation: Construction development can lead to biodiversity loss and environmental degradation through deforestation, ecosystem disruption, landscape change and fragmentation of natural areas.
The scale of our industry's impact on environmental change is therefore enormous.
Education and promotion of sustainable materials to minimize impact on the Planet
In the spirit of Wise Habit's brand values, whose mission is to co-create a more just, stable and prosperous world and change consumption habits, we have opened a place that provides concrete solutions and knowledge to minimize these negative effects. We have created a library to provide designers and architects with the resources they need to make informed and responsible design decisions that will contribute to environmental protection and sustainability. We promote in the creative industry - architecture, product, packaging and fashion - actions directed toward the use of environmentally friendly raw materials.
What kind of materials are included in the library?
The library is a collection of sustainable materials that takes into account various factors, such as the origin of the material, its life cycle, its biodegradability or recyclability, its potential and its application in design. It is equipped with more than 1,000 samples of materials, dominated by those from agricultural waste, as well as from the construction industry - from demolition, or the wood industry. The vast majority are either recyclable or biodegradable. The library's resources are expanded regularly to meet the needs of professionals in various industries. A physical database of materials, finishes and reports is available at Wise Habit, dedicated to product designers and architects. Soon it will also be available online in a subscription model. For on-site consultations, Wise Habit experts provide information on materials and their applications and help select the optimal solutions for a project.
Create positive change with us. It's worth it, because the earth is only one!
